The Clio Cup ready for 2022

After an extraordinary year in which 110 competitors competed throughout Europe, the Clio Cup will offer an even more spectacular programme for its thirty-first anniversary, with fourteen meetings spread over the different regional series in 2022 !

Heir to the R8 Gordini Cup founded in 1966, the Clio Cup has been a resounding success, offering lively and exciting races since 1991. Introduced in 2020, the fifth-generation Clio Cup continues to build on this success on Europe’s best circuits with a high-performance, reliable and accessible car for drivers of all skill levels.

Fourteen meetings in 2022

After a promising start, the Clio Cup has evolved while continuing its European expansion during a 2021 campaign marked by the launch of the Clio Cup Europe, which brought together more than a hundred competitors on prestigious racetracks. Always attentive to the expectations and needs of its customers, Alpine Racing’s customer racing department based in Viry-Châtillon will keep the fundamentals of a proven formula while slightly adjusting the category’s format.

In total, fourteen meetings will be scheduled on Europe’s best circuits. Among the new features, drivers will have the opportunity to compete at Jarama (Spain), but also Zandvoort and Mugello, which last year hosted the Dutch and Tuscan Formula 1 Grands Prix. Of these fourteen meetings, nine rounds will form the framework of the Clio Cup Europe, which will offer the most ambitious drivers a total of eighteen races. Only the best sixteen results will be retained to decide who will succeed Nicolas Milan in the Clio Cup Europe.

True to the specificities inherent to the Clio Cup since its creation, regional series will also be on the programme with the Clio Cup France, Italia, Spain and Eastern Europe. Comprising five to six rounds (ten to twelve races) at recognised events, their schedules have been carefully designed to ensure that the grids are always full and competitive. Each meeting will have separate classifications - with drivers only eligible for points in up to two series of their choice - to allow the contenders of each series - to compete directly against their direct rivals.

Unparalleled support and opportunities

Like in 2021, the different Clio Cups will benefit from the excellent organisational standards and experience of the Viry-Châtillon and Dieppe customer racing departments have made the Clio Cup such a success for over three decades.

These will be reflected in the strictly identical sporting and technical formats of all the meetings to ensure fairness for all participants. These elements, which are the hallmarks of the most famous single-brand cups, will be added to an attractive system of bonuses distributed equally over all the races. Drivers and teams will compete throughout the year for a share of the overall prize money of more than €380,000 at stake, including a Clio Cup for the Clio Cup Europe champion. In addition, drivers and teams alike will continue to be granted a range of products and services included in their entry.
