Run by Thibaut Bossy, the team based in the Lot-et-Garonne has been one of the most serious outsiders over the past few years in the Clio Cup France. That is now a thing of the past with the team winning its first two titles in the category this season !

Created in 2013, the TB2S structure quickly proved itself on the national scene by winning the Coupe de France des Circuits in its first campaign. The following year, they needed just two races to march on to the top step of the podium in a single-make category. The team then continued to grow to take on the Clio Cup, where it’s had the same meteoric rise since 2016.

Fighting more and more often at the front of the field, TB2S looked set to have a strong season in 2019 and during the off-season it brought Dorian Guldenfels on board. With the win for the Alsace native and two podium finishes for Thibaut Bossy at Nogaro, the team confirmed its new ambitions in putting in a massive team effort at Imola.

“Imola was new to us, but we had our strongest weekend with two one-two finishes”, Thibault Bossy says with pride. “Dorian won the two races while Guillaume Savoldelli and I both finished runner-up. We were close to making it a sweep on Sunday, but Edwin Traynard drove a great race that saw him move into the top three late in the going. We scored a ton of points at this meeting while our toughest rivals were not on form and this let us build a small gap.”

Despite having a comfortable lead, TB2S and its drivers were about to enter a second third of the season putting the nerves of the team to the test just before the summer break.

“After Lédenon, we had a more difficult weekend in Barcelona”, he recalls. “David Pouget was a cut above the rest and won both races while we were off our game, or nearly so. We didn’t find a solution, but Dorian and I each managed to salvage a podium result. It was very tough psychologically-speaking, because we couldn’t do any better.”

Back in the mix at Magny-Cours, TB2S came guns loaded for the final battle at Circuit Paul Ricard, where Dorian Guldenfels and the team sealed their respective titles at the conclusion of a finale that no one will soon forget.

"You always need a small luck factor", says Thibaut Bossy. “We had our share, especially in the last race where it was all a bit tense. In the end, consistency made the difference. Dorian has had this ability to build on that by being consistently in front with five wins, eight podiums and ten top-five finishes. Having several drivers at the same skill level also helps. Guillaume Savoldelli, Dorian Guldenfels and I got on very well. We have managed to maintain what I would describe as a family spirit and it is an asset on the track in qualifying and the races, especially on the fast circuits.”

"These titles are the culmination of all the work my mechanics and I have done in recent years, not to mention the invaluable help of my parents", he says. “We have only been around for seven years. To attract drivers able to win races and titles like Savoldelli, Chaumat and Guldenfels was a victory in itself. To win the title against David Pouget, Nicolas Milan and Benoît Castagné, among other front-runners, is really something to be proud of and it really shows our progress over the seasons.”

In motor racing, it is often said that the second title is the harder to get. The adage could be even more true next year with the introduction of New Clio Cup, but Thibaut Bossy remains calm before his next challenge.

"We will be back with New Clio Cup !”, he says proudly. “Thanks to his prize, Dorian can return to defend his crown. Lionel Viguier, Antoine Prenveille and myself will also return. We will have cars for rent and we have room to welcome new drivers. At the same time, I would like for us to expand the team with a double programme, especially in TTE as we will keep our Clio Cup IVs and Renault created a mini-challenge there. I’d be interested in finding drivers to join us there. It would allow us to take a step forward and be more regularly on track. I think this is the ideal time for our team.”
