How do you assess this outstanding month of July ?
“Very positively ! After a rather catastrophic start to the season with four problems in as many races, we sorted it all out with three wins in the last four races. I have a few regrets about the second race at Lédenon, but the entire GPA Racing team did a remarkable job to allow us to score two doubles in Barcelona. Jordi Palomeras even took points from the leader. It wasn’t premeditated, but so much the better !”

You know very well the leader. Is it an advantage or a disadvantage ?
“Neither. We know that Dorian is fast and still has a comfortable lead. This is a lot simpler for us. We don’t have any calculations to do and we just have to score as many points as possible at Magny-Cours. If I am honest, I stopped thinking about the title after Imola, so whatever happens now is a bonus. As we are also in the battle for the title in Spain, I am going to do everything I can to take that crown even though we are far from being the favourites.”

Was it satisfying to be the top Frenchman in the Clio Cup Open ?
“It was more of a consolation ! Things went pretty well at Castellet, but I hit the pit limiter in race two at Hockenheim. I lost ground and fourth at the chequered flag was frustrating because we set the fastest lap in the race. Despite this minor setback, it was a fantastic experience and I would like to thank Renault Sport Racing to giving us such a great opportunity.”

A word about the future Clio Cup ?
“Introducing a new generation is always a bit of a challenge for the teams, but everything we have seen so far looks to be heading in the right direction, especially the price reduction for equal performance. Other than the financial aspect that remains an important factor, what is crucial in feeder series’ is that everyone gets identical machinery. We are waiting to see it in the flesh and give it a go to really know what to expect, but we have confidence in Renault Sport.“
