Like a symbol, the fifth generation of Clio Cup will see five drivers battle for the first title of this new era at the end of an unprecedented final as the Circuit Paul Ricard F1 layout will give way to the 3.8 km version including the North Chicane on the Mistral straight.

Just days after winning his third Clio Cup Spain title, Nicolas Milan (Milan Compétition) is in a good position to make it a brace in 2020 and win his sixth crown in Clio Cup France. Never out of the top six this year, the leader will rely on his consistency and experience to manage his advantage.

While he presently has a 115-point lead, the deletion of the worst result of the season reduces his advantage to 62 from team-mate Anthony Jurado (Milan Compétition). The driver from Montpellier, who has so far won twice this year, will try his best to increase his win tally and worry Nicolas Milan just until the last lap of the season !

Nicolas Milan must also be wary of David Pouget (GPA Racing). The Albi native will be out for revenge after seeing his rival dethrone him in Spain last week and will also push as hard as he can to have a perfect weekend and catch his nemesis.

While Corentin Tierce (Milan Compétition) and Kevin Jimenez (GPA Racing) can hope to create an upset, neither control their fate. Just like Mathieu Lannepoudenx (Milan Compétition), they will hope to be in the hunt at the sharp end of the order and could prove to be decisive in the duel between their respective teams and team-mates.

The outcome of the title race in the Gentlemen category promises to be just as intense. After widening the gap, Mickaël Carrée (T2CM) has only a four-point lead from Laurent Dziadus (Team Lucas), who won twice last weekend in Barcelona. In parallel, Horn (GPA Racing) and Fabien Rivals (GPA Racing) will want to highlight the progress they’ve made with a first victory in the category.

Romain Boeckler (BRS Racing Team), who has already wrapped up the Junior honours, will now aim higher in the overall classification, just like his team-mates Florian Briché and Johan Boris "Jobo" Scheier who returns 14 years after his Clio Cup France triumph !

In a field where Jérémy Bordagaray (T2CM) would also like to finish the year on a high, some new competitors will take part in this season-finale. Familiar faces in the promotion series’ Vincent Balandras and Gentlemen drivers Yann-Maël Navillod, Gaël Rostant and Stéphane Nevers will be entered by GPA Racing while Guillaume Maio will be seconded by Matthieu Moreau at GM Sport.

The drivers and their teams will have to adapt extremely fast to the layout being used this weekend as they will only have one free-practice session to find their bearings prior to the two qualifying sessions and the races on Saturday and Sunday. The races will be broadcast on the Renault Sport YouTube channel and the Renault Sport Series Facebook page.
