Clio Rally heads towards 2021

Following a promising maiden campaign in all aspects within a difficult context, New Clio Rally is set to continue its development in an action-packed 2021. The programme promises to be intense next year with the last round of the 2020 Clio Trophy France before the Tarmac and Gravel trophies get underway on the most spectacular special stages in France !

With more than a hundred cars already sold in France and around the world, the Rally5 version of the iconic city-car enjoyed immediate success on the feeder series landscape.

2020 Clio Trophy France : a worthy season-finale

The first edition of the Clio Trophy France seduced nearly 50 competitors in the first two rounds of its calendar within the framework of the FFSA French Tarmac Rally Championship.

With the cancellation of several rounds due to the health crisis, Renault Sport Racing has taken the decision in agreement with the governing bodies to move the season-finale to the 2021 Rallye du Touquet (March 18-20).

After the Rallye Mont-Blanc Morzine and the Rallye Cœur de France, this third and final meeting will thus offer crews the opportunity to truly fight for the title as all the results will be counted in the final general classification.

Spring promises to be intense when 11 crews will still be in contention mathematically to be the first to win the Clio Trophy France with New Clio Rally and share in the generous bonuses and prize scheme, maintained at their initially planned levels, on offer from Renault Sport Racing.

Clio Trophy France Tarmac : a stout programme for 2021

Exceptional circumstances call for exceptional measures as the 2021 Rallye Le Touquet Pas de Calais will also serve as the season-opener for the Clio Trophy France Tarmac in 2021.

After this unique start to the season, the crews will then battle in five rounds of the FFSA French Tarmac Rally Championship on the most spectacular roads in France with a proven fast, reliable and affordable car.

On the sporting side, the format will remain the same with the five best results from six rounds establishing the general classification. A new points scheme will be introduced to reward a greater number of competitors and many initiatives such as the Junior, Gentlemen and Teams categories as well as the Renault Dealership Challenge will return.

To retain everything that makes it a success on the national scene, the Clio Trophy France Tarmac’s sporting and technical fairness will be ensured by Renault Sport Racing, which will continue to offer an attractive and multi-pronged bonus and prize scheme.

Clio Trophy France Gravel : it’s all about versatility

New Clio is already incredibly versatile with the Rally, Cup and RX versions. And now New Clio Rally is available in either an asphalt or gravel form. The gravel kit developed by Renault Sport Racing took Florian Bernardi to second place in the French two-wheel drive category of the French Gravel Championship in 2020.

In order to allow gravel specialists to demonstrate their skills while organising a competition that is accessible to the greatest number of participants, Renault Sport Racing will launch the Clio Trophy France Gravel next year in four rounds of the French Gravel Rally Championship.

The elements responsible for the success of the Tarmac Trophy will be carried over to the Gravel Trophy with the same level of fairness, an independent points and bonus system and the creation of challenges for the teams and members of the Renault network involved.

At the end of the season, the three best results will be kept to designate the winner of this inaugural edition, whose calendar is complementary to the Clio Trophy France Tarmac in order to avoid date conflict and maximise the opportunities for everyone.

The talent pipeline

True to its tradition that has now been in place for more than 50 years, Renault Sport Racing will continue to work for the accessibility of motorsport through attractive incentives for all competitors and opportunities to climb the racing ladder.

The top three in the Clio Trophy France Tarmac will be rewarded while the best from the Junior category will be offered a programme with Renault Sport Racing for 2022, managed by the structure winning the team standings. In the Clio Trophy France Gravel, the best Junior will also have the opportunity to race in two rounds on this surface in 2022 behind the wheel of the new model currently under development at Viry-Châtillon : Clio Rally4 !
