Non-stop entertainment in store at the Circuit Paul Ricard
Some 92,000 fans attended the World Series by Renault’s 70th meeting in Budapest two weeks ago, and Renault Sport Technologies’ Fast, Free and Fun event is set to continue its long-running adventure this weekend at the Circuit Paul Ricard. French race fans are in for a treat at this the sixth meeting of the tenth WSR season, with an outstanding programme of events and activities laid on for them.
As has become the norm, the French leg of the World Series by Renault will offer plenty of high-class sport as the race for glory continues in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series (the last rung on the climb to Formula One), Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 (the school of champions), and Eurocup Clio (the third international category on the schedule at the Paul Ricard).
The action on the track will be non-stop, with 13-time F1 grand prix winner David Coulthard showcasing his considerable skills in the Infiniti Red Bull Racing F1 Show. The fans will also be feasting their eyes on the collectors’ rally and the Renault Sport Show, in which our professional drivers will be turning on the acrobatics in the Megane Renaultsport and the Twizy F1.
Always a huge hit with race-goers, Jean Ragnotti is the star attraction of the Renault Classic Show, with the Renault Coupe cars making up an impressive supporting cast. Appearing on the bill are the Renault Maxi 5 Turbo (1985), the R8 Gordini (1969), R12 Gordini Coupe (1971), R5 LS Coupe (1974), 5GT Turbo Coupe (1985), Clio I 16S Coupe (1990), Megane I Coupe (1995) and the Twingo I Coupe (1993).
The World Series by Renault has a lot more to offer besides all that. Visitors to the track have free access to the paddock, where they can get a close-up look at the world of motorsport and head down to the pit lane for autograph-signing session with the stars of tomorrow.
Off the track, there’s plenty for young and old to do at the all-new Renault Village, not least the Renault Sport Challenge, which involves a series of competitions in each activity area. The prize for the winners is a VIP Hot Lap with a professional driver in a Megane Renaultsport.
Each activity area has its own theme. The Renault Megane Trophy and the Renault Megane R.S. take pride of place at “Adrenaline”, while the Formula Renault 3.5 is the centrepiece at “Racing”. Spectators can also try their hand at the batak reaction board, used by drivers to enhance their reflexes and coordination. The “Passion” activity hub puts the spotlight on the Clio Renaultsport and Clio Cup cars, while “Story” provides a fitting backdrop for Renault’s vintage and classic cars. There are plenty of challenges in store at the “Game” hub, not least the pit stop challenge and the race simulators, and there’s gaming galore in the Gameloft tent, where visitors can take the Clio Renaultsport 200 EDC round the Monaco track in the Asphalt 8 game, with a host of goodies to be won.
Formula One will also be very much in evidence in Le Castellet this weekend. The Red Bull RB8 will be on show at the Infiniti Red Bull Racing F1 Corner, and there will also be a unique exhibition devoted to Renault Sport F1 and its history and also giving visitors a fascinating and revealing behind-the-scenes look at the preparation that goes into a grand prix.
Race-goers have the chance to take a lap of the track in the famous Renault Type A, which dates to 1898, and to check out the entire Renault range, which will be joined by the vehicles in the Z.E. and Dacia ranges. The eyecatching Nouvelle Twingo will also be on show at the Circuit Paul Ricard test centre, with drivers invited to put its amazing manoeuvrability to the test on a course designed especially for the occasion. Not to be outdone, the Renault Captur will be attracting lots of attention with the bag jump, which invites thrill seekers to launch themselves on to a huge air-filled bag from a height of anywhere between three and 11 metres before reliving the moment on video.
The ultimate family event, the World Series by Renault also has little ones in mind at the Circuit Paul Ricard, where a miniature train will tour the paddock, giving children a chance to soak up the race-day atmosphere. And with its bouncy castles and road safety workshops, the Children’s Village has lots more entertainment lined up for young race fans.
