Involved in the series since its inception, Renault has helped open up a totally new avenue for motorsport. And as the Spark-Renault SRT01_E single-seaters prepare to race through the streets of Monaco, a new chapter is also set to be added to the long history shared by Renault Sport and the Principality since 1924.

Having held race weekends for its single-make formulas since 1972, produced stunning performances at the Rallye Monte-Carlo and the Monaco F1 Grand Prix and, more recently, having become involved in alternative energies rallying, Renault will be showing off its technological expertise in the electric single-seaters of the FIA Formula E championship.

For this first ever race on European soil, the championship heads to Monaco. This event confirms the investment of the Automobile Club de Monaco in New Energies and Sustainable Development. Under the auspices of Prince Albert and the Government of the Principality, Monaco has implemented a proactive policy favouring sustainability in various fields, such as mobility, water and waste management, preservation of the natural environment and the quality of marine and land environments. Following the organisation of the Energies Nouvelles (New Energies) and ZENN (Zero Emissions, No Noise) versions of the Rallye Monte-Carlo, the ACM is stepping up its commitment with Formula E.

In cooperation with the series’ other stakeholders, the Automobile Club de Monaco has devised a brand-new, modified version of the street circuit for Formula E. This includes the start-finish line, the new Sainte-Dévote corner, the Swimming Pool section and the famous Rascasse corner. With twelve turns on the 1.76km track, it looks like there will be plenty of action during the 47 laps of the race.

As well as the racing, Renault will be provide plenty of action for fans with a show featuring four Renault Zoés and three Renault Twizys. In the eVillage, many activities will be available to the public, with an electric track, the ZE range, a show car sporting e.dams-Renault decals, as well as a driver autograph-signing session. Sébastien Buemi and Nicolas Prost will both be there in their e.dams-Renault team overalls and fans can support them by given them their vote in the FanBoost.

“We are incredibly proud to be racing here in Monaco, this iconic venue in the history of motorsport,” commented Jean-Pascal Dauce, Director of Motorsport, Renault Sport Technologies. “The modified track is very interesting and features an unprecedented mix of fast and slow corners. We should have better grip here than at other the other circuits on the calendar and, as usual, energy management will be very important if there are few safety car periods. On this track, which is the shortest of the season, the drivers should be capable of making a difference both in terms of driving and strategy, which augurs well for an exciting race.”
